World Habitat Day -- Habitat for Humanity Int'l 1

World Habitat Day

In honor of World Habitat Day 2009, Habitat advocates reminded President Obama that whether the issue is health, education or well-being: “It all starts at home.”

More than 1,500 photos were submitted to create a photo mosaic that was sent to the White House.

The United Nations has designated the first Monday in October as annual World Habitat Day. World Habitat Day 2010 will be held on October 4.

The purpose

On this day, we reaffirm that adequate shelter is a basic human right, and we focus on the housing conditions of cities and towns around the world. We also use this day to remind the world of its collective responsibility for the future of the human habitat.

World Habitat Day is a chance to join together to highlight the need and importance of housing and to exchange ideas and solutions.
