What we do

Habitat for Humanity does much more than build houses. Learn about the five different areas in which we work.

Our mission

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses so that every person can access adequate housing in their own community.

Latin America and the Caribbean

In 1979, Habitat for Humanity opened its doors in Guatemala, the first country in Latin America and the second country outside of the United States (after the Democratic Republic of Congo). Some thirty years later, some 30,000 houses have been built in Gautemala and the organization has touched the lives of many people across the region.

From any point of view, Habitat for Humanity in Latin America and the Caribbean is a story of success. Almost 100,000 families, in over 20 countries, have been served in the region.

In addition, excellent partnerships are being developed in the different countries throughout the region, as well as in the rest of the world. These experiences—both personal and financial—reflect a profound commitment to Habitat’s mission. Each year more people become involved throughout the region, and the work extends beyond borders.
