Volunteer

Photo petition: Make your world a HOME!
Hundreds of people across the region share the same passion for volunteerism, making the world a home with each action that they take to support the cause of adequate housing.

The petition is an opportunity to publicly declare your commitment to make our world a safe and healthy place to live.

How to participate:

  • Create your sign with "I make my world a home" or "Hago del mundo un hogar" (…or the same phrase in whatever language you speak).
  • Take a creative pic...with whomever, wherever, however.
  • Visit the Flickr group Haz de tu mundo un hogar.
  • Upload your photo to the group, with the title, "I make my world a home". If you wish, add your name and where the photo was taken in the description box.
  • …or you can send your photo to comunicacioneslac@habitat.org, and we’ll upload it for you!

The photos will be used in a special publication for the World Urban Forum in Brazil next March 2010, demonstrating the solidarity and commitment of the Habitat for Humanity family in our region. Join the movement!

International Volunteer Program

Long-term volunteer opportunities with Habitat for Humanity.

An "action" is defined as "a state of real existence, rather than a possibility; something done voluntarily." To take action, then, is to turn a possibility into a result. The will to act is the decision to put hope in concrete terms.

Historically, volunteers mobilized by Habitat for Humanity have participated primarily in construction activities. Today volunteers, while always taking action related to the theme of housing, provide much more.

In addition to building homes, volunteers help with financial education workshops, rebuild areas affected by natural disasters, and encourage others to advocate for those in need a safe place to live.

We believe that through the mobilization of volunteers in issues related to adequate housing, we achieve a just world, and open more doors to collaborate with families in need.

  • your mind” Notes on the 6th Annual Volunteer Mobilization Meeting (Spanish)

Transform your mind

The Volunteer Mobilization team of Habitat for Humanity-Latin America & Caribbean (LAC) held its sixth meeting from 13 to 18 October 2008 in Copan Ruinas, Honduras. The main interest was to promote the mobilization of volunteers who support the cause of Habitat for Humanity in LAC through new opportunities for service and networking.

With that goal in mind, new products and services for local and international volunteers were presented, with the proposition to improve the quality and consistency of the experiences of volunteers in order to have more in the future. A commitment was made to focus on creating systematization of experiences to involve more volunteers who will eventually be promoters of the cause to establish volunteer networks through the Corporate Social Responsibility programs for organizations in LAC.

With the publication of this report we hope to contribute to the divulgence of the benefits of volunteer mobilization calling for solidarity events around the cause of adequate housing to all stakeholders.
